No Veils.

November 10, 2010

Religious choice cannot trump public safety and security.

If a police office had not backed down from asking that a woman lift her veil to reveal her face, Elizabeth Smart would have been rescued within the first year after she was kidnapped. That’s right.  He wanted to see her face to see if the veiled woman was Elizabeth Smart but he didn’t push past the claim that the veil was a religious requirement.  He backed down and she suffered YEARS of additional pain.

No veils.

h/t Blazing Cat Fur who summed the whole thing up much more succinctly than me:  OMG.

Wow, you raise an excellent point about officer discretion. Thanks for the link.
