What happened to the conservatives?

September 23, 2010

I thought that the people of Saskatchewan had elected a conservative government when they voted the Sask Party into government.  Not so much.  They are certainly more conservative than the NDP.  That’s easy enough.  However, I think of small government when I think of conservative government.

I do not think of government investment in football stadiums.  I know.  I know.  The proposed facility in Regina is a “multi-purpose” facility.  Blah blah blah.  The multiple purposes in question are all ENTERTAINMENT.  Football.  Concerts.  More concerts.  “Justin Bieber could have sold even more tickets!”

This is simply not the purview of government.  Government should build fire halls and schools and bridges and roads.  Government should not build concert facilities and football stadiums.

Actually, while we are on the topic, civic government should not be building an art gallery.  Seriously.  The city of Saskatoon needs to pay for new bridges and repairs to old bridges rather than art galleries.  Safety, not entertainment.

Aaaargh.  It’s times like this that I wish I could vote here.
