Are visitors welcome?

August 7, 2010

Just some thoughts after watching author Akbar Ahmed‘s interview on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

Can non-Muslims visit the Saskatchewan Islamic Association mosque?

Are they welcome to attend the Friday “sermon”?

Is it in English?

I feel that I could attend any church in Saskatoon and be welcome.  Is that true of the mosque?

I’m surprised at your answer to the last question because I’ve been told by a member of the IAS that the khutba (is that correct?) was in Arabic when they attended in June.

Is it just in Arabic some weeks?

By the way, how do you know what happens at the IAS in Saskatoon?

There are two khutbahs held at the mosque due to the increasing number of Muslims in Saskatoon….the first one is in English AND Arabic (Quran and Hadith are quoted in Arabic and then translated) but the second one is totally in English.

No. That is not what happened. The khutbah was entirely in Arabic.

Do you really believe that the second khutbah was added because of an increasing population?

Yes that is EXACTLY what happens every Friday…and yes that is why it is added because about 2-3 years ago there was only one khutbah when they weren’t that many Muslims
