I’m never travelling through Denver again.

April 2, 2010

The international arrivals and connection arrangement at Denver International Airport is insane.  First, you walk and walk and walk to get to the immigration officers.  We did get to zip through to the US Citizens line but that was the end of any sensible arrangement.  There must have been six international flights arriving at the same time.  After getting our luggage, we joined a mass of people trying to leave the arrivals area where ONE officer was checking customs form.  Because of perfectly allowable food items, we were then shunted to another line for another screening.  We did finally get out but had to recheck our bags for our connecting flight.   We were then told to go to “Concourse B”.

Okay.  Just one problem:  when you leave the baggage recheck and look all around there are NO SIGNS THAT SAY “CONCOURSE” ANYTHING!  None.

We finally joined another long, windy line in the middle of the mall area to get to another security screening.  Of course, the line that we were ultimately in was the line that special frequent travellers get to sneak into from the side.  (And, the area is roped off with signs saying basically “don’t go under the rope.”  Super secure, no?)

After all of that, we got on a tram/train/something to go to our gate.  (Near as I could tell, we walked across the runways to get to the terminal and then rode under the runway to get back to the gates.  Aaargh.)  It took 1 1/2 hours from landing to get to our next gate.  Thank goodness that I picked the flights with a relatively long layover.  We had ten minutes to grab food and then board the next flight.

Next time, I’m going through Calgary if I have to take United or I’m sticking with Delta via Minneapolis.  Much, much better arrangement.

    Denver always sucks. Period.

The return trip was much better but we didn’t have to go through security or immigration again.

Two good things about the Denver Airport: Wolfgang Puck’s restaurant and a cool toy store.

    That’s all.
