Flying pigs: Quebec edition

March 16, 2010

I have something nice to say about Quebec.  Usually, I don’t really have much to say about Quebec and certainly not much praise.

Today is different.

The Quebec Human Rights Commission has decided that women who wear niqabs must show their faces to establish their identity to get a health insurance card.  And they can not insist on having a woman verify that their face matches their identification.  This decision will actually have a wider effect since it establishes that women in niqabs (or burkas) can not demand service from a woman.

Wow.  I am impressed.  People cannot demand special treatment on a religious basis.
