I might never take a taxi in Saskatoon.

March 4, 2010

Who wants to end up in the middle of a taxi cab fight?  Literally?

This isn’t the first taxi cab clash here.

I’m not sure who’s to blame.  Comfort Cab is the upstart created by drivers who left United Blueline.  So, is United fighting back or is Comfort Cab instigating all of this?  I think that I’ll just drive myself, thanks.

United operates, or operated until now, as pretty much a monopoly here. Seeing Comfort be created is a welcome change. I have taken 1 Blueline taxi since Comfort came about. And that was because it was new years, and there was no way we were letting a cab drive by us.

My understanding is that the last airport bid was basically awarded to blueline based on… well nothing, and Comfort spoke out. So I think there could be a lot some tension there.

I have been around this business for 11 years and I can assure you that the public have little knowledge of the truth behind what comfort is trying to do .THAT BEING SAID each driver is an individual it is not fair to judge all drivers by a few please remember it is self employment

What is Comfort Cab trying to do? Break a virtual monopoly? Destroy a company?

Whatever. I know that I would be worried about taking a Comfort Cab. Most are probably perfectly fine but what if I get a driver who has decided to stir up a bit of trouble? No thanks.

And what about the United drivers? Defending themselves and their business or trying to destroy an upstart company to maintain the virtual monopoly?

What I find odd about this story is that if I am at the airport I should feel fine to call any cab company to come and pick me up. I do not feel as if I should have to go outside to the taxi stand. Even more so in Saskatoon as it is not as busy. What if there is not a cab there? Why would I not be allowed to call a Comfort or Radio cab?

You can call any company ,the problem at the airport has nothing to do with drivers,it was an airport security giving a ticket for parking in a handicap stall and got run over for it ,no matter what you say about blueline most drivers dont care they just want to make a living mabye a few like to have problems but the majority just work and go home to there families .again dont judge all by a few it is not right!!!!!

michele , as in most business there are going to be companies that monopolize you are very nieve to think otherwise. The break away of some drivers was due to the fact they did not want to pay for things like inspections and paint jobs and basic upkeep. So you can make them look like the good guys because of what they say and try to promote. the stands they say blueline monopolize are paid for by the guys out there working they are not free to blueline ,if you pay for something you ,would you like someone to come steal it or fight you over it?
it is not so simple just to blame but look deep into the truth why did they leave blueline they had all the stands /???? now they cry why ???
