“keep your youth group at home”

January 25, 2010

Exactly.

(See the letter titled “A Different Take”.)

Sending middle class teens off to impoverished nations to “help” does more harm than good and is a waste of money, time, and effort.  Plus, if you keep your children at home,  they won’t need to be rescued by the military while their parents whine about the government not acting swiftly enough.

Indeed there are plenty of needs to fill in our own country for those youth groups. What’s that old saying “charity begins at home”.

Did America suddenly run out of orphans? Since when did we need to import them? I wonder how many communities here in America could benefit from all the medical, financial, and civil aid being heaped on Haiti. Not saying they don’t need some help mind you, just the whole planet is helping there and only we are going to help ourselves.
