Is it wrong to hope that Bill Maher gets swine flu?

October 20, 2009

Probably but I sort of do.  Bill Maher is an anti-vaxer and uses his television show to spread his decidedly unscientifice, wrong information about vaccines.

Respectful Insolence at ScienceBlogs has documented the whole sorry mess including video.  The money quote?

…I do understand the theory of inoculation. Yes, you give someone a little bit of the disease and it fools your body into providing antibodies which fight it. Brilliant! Bravo! Maybe there is some occasions where inoculation is a wise thing to do. I hope not. I hope I would never have to have one because, you know, to present it just as this genius medical advancement, no, it’s actually a risky medical procedure that begs long term cost-benefit analysis.

Hmmm … I wonder if Mark Lemstra is a fan?

Don’t you think that it would be at least a tad bit amusing if Maher were to get swine flu in spite of his non-“Western medicine” woo care?
