I don’t want to pay for an art gallery.

September 24, 2009

$58 million?  For an art gallery? Seriously?

The city of Saskatoon is on the hook for $17 million for the Art Gallery of Saskatchewan which is supposed to be some kind of “destination center” which is absurd.  I hate to break it to the tourism and business people but very few people are going to make a trip to Saskatoon just because we’ll have a new art gallery.

$22 million for a city of  218,000 people seems like a lot of money.

Don’t forget the underground parking.  That’s another $7 million which equals $28,000 per parking spot.  Yeeesh.

I know, I know.  Gormley would say I’m crazy for not supporting progress and growth.  Yippee.  I do not believe that this is part of the role of government.  (Looks like I’ve ranted about this before.)

Gosh.  I wonder if the mill rate will go up next year.
