Not purple, too!

September 21, 2009

Holy crap.

First, the breast cancer survivors/patients/fundraisers/whatever co-opted pink.  October is almost here and with it comes anything and everything colored pink and raising money/awareness for breast cancer.

Now, they’re trying to do the same to purple!  The Calgary Health Trust and the Alberta Cancer Foundation are sponsoring “Positively Purple.”

Oh, I get it.  Pink (breast cancer) + blue (prostate cancer) = purple.  Very clever.  Now stop it!  Leave the crayons alone.

Actually, while we’re on the topic, why did the gay pride movement have to take over rainbows?  I used to have rainbow stickers and earrings and necklaces when I was a kid but now, whenever I see rainbow items, I know that they are the symbol for gay pride.  Excellent job with the branding and awareness but rather annoying for people who don’t want to wear that symbol.
