Amazon Algorithm

September 10, 2009

Looks like Amazon’s faulty search algorithm is now affecting those automatic recommendations they periodically send out.  In fact, I’m not sure that I’ve ever received one that suggested a good book for me.

Based on my purchase of If I’m a Stay-At-Home Mom, Why Am I Always in the Car? by Jerry Scott, they are recommending Short History Of Caravans In The UK by Richard Hammond.

Seriously?  I buy a book of cartoons about parenting and Amazon recommends a book about campers?  In the UK?  How are those two things related?  I guess it’s because they each have “car” in the title.  That’s a crappy match algorithm.

I think I’ll just request that Amazon stop sending these useless bits of mail.
