Choose your country.

American Apparel offers a number of different sites for different regions represented by appropriate flags.  Japan, Korea, Australia, United Kingdom, and Switzerland get their own flags.  The rest of Europe gets the European Union flag.  There is only half of an American flag because the other 24 countries which American Apparel ships to are tucked underneath.

And what about Canada?  A single country with it’s own American Apparel website would only need on flag.  Right?  Wrong.

Canada is a country.  Quebec is a Canadian province.  Why is Quebec’s flag peeking out from underneath the Canadian flag?

I know that this is minor but I’m curious.  Perhaps this is supposed to indicate that the site is available in French but the entire country is officially bilingual so the extra flag is unnecessary.

And don’t even get me started on that half-a-flag icon for the American site.  So annoying.

Even if it’s sold in other countries the company is still called American Apparel so why do they have any other flags in the first place?

I understand they want to be part of the global marketplace but it’s called “American Apparel”.

Granted the entire hemisphere is America so having Canadian or Honduran flags makes sense, but the companies name came from America as in the shortened version of United States of America not in the geographical sense.

anyway if Quebec get’s a flag all 50 states need their flag in their too for the American site.

What about Ontario’s Flag, BC, Saskatchewan and all the other territories?

I think AP just wants to be big boys and they want to appeal to as many people as possible…they just can’t do it with that tiny little flag

Probably because when you click the Quebec flag you get their French-language site in Canadian dollar values and Canadian shipping rates…

The entire country is NOT bilingual. Officially, yes. In practice, no.

Yes. I know that the Quebec flag links to the french language Canadian site.

    I just don’t like it.

Michele, why don’t you like it? Does it make the website harder to use for you? Probably not. And does it make the website easier to use for some people? Probably. So what’s the big deal?

    Entirely agree with Louis.

I personally think it’s really a question of language difference more than anything else.
Besides, Amer.Ap.’s founder is originally from Montreal, Québec – so maybe this is the reason the flag is especially displayed. And, FYI, Quebec has been wanting to get its independance from Canada for a while now…
